Ask a Kitchen Designer: Backsplash
As a kitchen designer, many of my clients ask me for recommendations on the perfect backsplash for their new kitchen. There are many variables involved in selecting a tile or stone that best suits your space. Key elements such as cabinetry style, colour, countertop material and design, and even your hardware finish play a role in determining the best fit. Your backsplash will command a large amount of real estate in your kitchen, so you’ll want to take the proper time and consideration in order to avoid selecting a tile you may tire of in a year.
As you’ll see below, there is an almost infinite number of selections available for consumers nowadays. I really only skimmed the surface in order to keep this post to a manageable length, but additional options are available in many shapes, sizes, and materials such as natural stone, hand-painted fireclay, ceramic, etc. Make sure to do your research, determine a comfortable budget, and connect with a reputable tile supplier and installer to get the job done right. And if all the decisions that go into a large reno are becoming overwhelming and confusing, contact me for a 2-hour consultation where I will help tie together the finishing touches so you can stress less and get back to enjoying your new home!
